June:
The Summer Lull
It’s hot, there’s ticks and bugs, not to mention three
months left until deer season begins.  Stop right there!
That is the wrong attitude to have.  I know the deer
season seems so close, yet so far, but if you take
advantage of the longer days we are blessed with, you can
get a leg up on your favorite hunting spot.

Get those trail cameras out now.  Putting them on your
food sources is a good place to start seeing what deer
made it through last year.  If you know your preferred
summer food sources, get a mineral lick out there.
Remember, summer is the most critical time for antler
growth as well as for fawning. Mineral rocks  put the
nutrients deer crave and replenish their daily diet.

Next, be sure to get your shooting lanes trimmed.  With
all the green on the trees you can see what is in your
way and what needs to be cut out.  Also get your trails
to and from your stands cut for easy entry come fall.

Lastly, there's no better time than right now to start
practicing. If you love bowhunting like myself, go to
your local 3-D shoots.  It keeps your form in check and
come September you won’t have a second thought about
drawing down on that deer.

You'll be surprised how these seemingly small things can
really add up and give you that edge come September.
Procrastination is a slippery slope, and if you let your
hunting to-do list pile up, you'll only create easily
avoidable anxiety come opening day.  A little work and
effort now will have you enjoying your time on stand.

   Enjoy your Summer,
