July:
Call Preparation Before Your Hunt
You're prepared for the opener, but the night before,
take a few minutes to go over those slate and glass
calls. Recondition the surface of your calls with a good
piece of scotchbrite, fine grit unnatural sound in the
woods then scratching across your call surface. Make sure
you chalk up those box calls as well. The morning of your
hunt throw those mouth calls in your mouth to loosen up
the reeds; no need to have that raspy hen come out like a
squeaky hen.
A few minutes of this night-before or morning-of your
hunt preparation can make those notes ring out more
natural and clear.
Good Luck,
Greg Shrieves
